The Western Michigan University Intramural sports program welcomes athletes of all levels of expertise, from record setting high school quarterbacks or people who think the Denver Nuggets were something that could be ordered off the dollar menu at McDonalds.

The collegiate way of living is always akin to good health and physical fitness, so staying active is of the utmost importance in these formidable years of college students? lives. The program boasts 10 different sports throughout the year that typically cost $9 per participant

The fall sports available for 2013 include: softball, sand volleyball, indoor volleyball, flag football, basketball, tennis, racquetball and ice hockey.

All of the sports listed are available in three formats: men?s league, women?s league and co-recreational league, in which both sexes play together for a common cause.

The team registration process is as painless as reading this well-written article. There are essentially two options for signing a team up to play in a specific league.

The first is through the information super highway that we know as the internet. Participants can visit www.imleagues.com/wmich to make a profile for themselves and sign up their team. All players must have a profile on this website in order to take part their desired league. Once the profile has been completed, players must visit the Intramural Sports office in the3rd floor of the Student Recreation Center and for themselves and/or their teammates.

Students can also stop by the Intramural Sports office and ask for a roster sheet that will require you to manually fill all of your players? names, Western Identification Numbers (WIN) and email addresses.

Both registration techniques require visiting the3rd floor of the Student Recreation Center for payment as there is not yet an online payment option.

The Intramural Sports program also serves as an employer for students who are interested in working with and around sports. Each year, the program hires students to officiate sports across the spectrum. Being an official is an excellent way to stay involved in campus, make friends and earn extra spending money.

?The sports I typically need hire for are flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and ice hockey,? said Intramural Sports Coordinator, Darren Leigh.

The current pay rate for officials is $8.22 per game for all sports except Hockey which pays $11 per game. Previous experience as an official is not a requirement, as an extensive amount of training is given to prospective officials.

?The Western Michigan University Intramural Sports program is unparalleled in its ability to enable campus involvement and entertainment,? said Leigh. ?With a campus wide enrollment of 25,000 plus students, sometimes one cannot help but feel like a small tadpole in a much larger pond. The dorms and classrooms are where friendships are cultivated and intramural sports/student recreation are where they can be harvested.?

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Georgia prosecutors said on Thursday they would seek the death penalty against three soldiers accused of being part of an anarchist militia that killed a former soldier and his girlfriend to keep their anti-government plot secret.

U.S. Army privates Isaac Aguigui and Christopher Salmon and Sergeant Anthony Peden all face first-degree murder charges in a civilian court for the December 5, 2011, deaths of Michael Roark, 19, and his girlfriend, 17-year-old Tiffany York.

The soldiers, who are stationed at Fort Stewart near Savannah, were accused of killing Roark and York as part of an effort to keep their anti-government group called FEAR, or Forever Enduring Always Ready, from being exposed.

A fourth Fort Stewart soldier charged in the case reached a plea deal with prosecutors on Monday that could allow him to avoid a death sentence. Private First Class Michael Burnett, 26, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and agreed to testify against the other defendants.

Salmon's wife, Heather Salmon, also has been charged in the deaths of Roark and York, but prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against her, said Long County assistant district attorney Isabel Pauley.

Aguigui, the alleged ringleader of the militia group, will plead not guilty to the murder charges, said his attorney, Keith Higgins.

Prosecutors say the soldiers plotted to assassinate President Barack Obama and to attack their Army base and a dam in Washington state. They also discussed poisoning the apple crop in Washington state, and purchased $87,000 worth of weapons to carry out their attacks, according to Pauley.

The bodies of Roark and York were discovered in a heavily wooded area near the military base, Pauley said. Both had been shot to death.

During his plea hearing on Monday, Burnett said Roark, who had recently left the Army, had learned of the militia while serving at Fort Stewart. The group came to see him "as a loose end," Pauley said.

FORTUNE -- The economy coughs and sputters and threatens to stall out -- again. Growth slows; unemployment ticks back up to 8.3%. Congress shamelessly convenes a five-week recess, while the President camps out under the comforting applause of the campaign trail.

The absurdity of Washington's inaction comes into fuller relief when you realize that there actually is something lawmakers could do to stimulate economic growth, boost America's international competitive position, and improve living standards. Something that (believe it or not) draws bipartisan support even in these hyperdivided times.

But corporate tax reform -- dramatically lowering the rate while closing loopholes -- would require a holy alliance of courageous party leaders willing to buck K Street's lobbyist juggernaut, and strategic business leaders willing to buck short-term corporate interests. (For more on tax reform see our election package.) Both are in short supply, but far from absent. In fact, the ground for post-election reform is already being laid.

At 35%, the U.S. corporate tax rate is among the highest in the world and competitively out of step with other countries, like Canada, that are lowering theirs. But the idea behind reform is not to reduce the overall tax burden on corporate America. Tax avoidance is a skill so valued by management that more than half of American corporations no longer pay significant taxes anyway, according to the General Accountability Office.

Rather, reform will attract (taxable) capital investment -- and thereby jobs at better wages -- here at home. In the past decade 46 corporate headquarters have left the U.S., and trillions of dollars in profits remain offshore. As finance professor Mihir A. Desai writes in this summer's Harvard Business Review, "High corporate taxes divert capital away from the U.S. corporate sector and toward noncorporate uses and other countries. They therefore limit investments that would raise the productivity of American workers and would increase real wages. This is the cruel logic of a corporate tax in a global economy -- that its burden falls most heavily on workers."

A number of studies have found that reducing the corporate tax rate to, say, 25% would add one to two points to America's GDP growth. And this is a rare tax cut (unlike individual rates) that even President Obama claims to support, along with Republican tax activist Grover Norquist and some of corporate America's biggest names. The President is on record supporting a lower rate combined with killing "unfair" tax breaks. The administration shows no signs of leading the charge, but its rhetoric suggests the White House won't stand in the way either.

Norquist is key because his tax pledge -- a signed promise not to raise taxes -- could make it politically untenable for Republican lawmakers to eliminate corporate tax breaks, even as they lower the overall rate. But Norquist tells Fortune he's ready to play ball: "Revenue-neutral tax reform, as [enacted] in 1986, is fine. It is perfectly consistent with the Taxpayer Protection Pledge."

Finally, there is a coalition of businesses with large American workforces, called RATE, committed to reform. The group -- made up of firms like Boeing (BA), FedEx (FDX), AT&T (T), and Ford (F) -- has been quietly trying to convince lawmakers that its members will sacrifice their tax breaks for a lower rate. "Elected officials need to hear our tax VPs say, 'We will put expenditures on the table,'" says veteran Democratic strategist Elaine Kamarck, who co-chairs the bipartisan group. "This is what breaks the whole thing loose."

Yes, this battle could be a bloodbath -- with manufacturers and energy concerns defending valuable tax breaks, or, under Desai's plan, noncorporate entities like limited partnerships objecting to a new tax.

But it's a battle worth waging. The 1986 reforms came after a fierce legislative brawl and have been credited with encouraging a decade of growth. Politically, too, it's worth noting that the biggest loser in any reform would be Washington's entrenched tax lobby. And that's something this unpopular Congress could take to the bank with voters.

A song called "Reach for the Stars" will make its debut, appropriately, from space.

NASA plans to broadcast the tune, written by rapper and songwriter will.i.am, from its Curiosity rover, newly landed on the surface of Mars.

Though Curiosity has no speakers, it will transmit the song via radio waves back to Earth to be received at 1 p.m. PDT (4 p.m. EDT) Tuesday, Aug. 28 during an educational event at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif.?

"Members of the team that successfully landed the rover on Mars earlier this month will explain to students the mission and the technology behind the song's interplanetary transmission," NASA officials wrote in a statement. "will.i.am will then premiere 'Reach for the Stars,' a new composition about the singer's passion for science, technology and space exploration.?

During the event, NASA scientists and mission managers will talk about the Curiosity mission and explain the technology behind the broadcast to students. It won't be the first broadcast from space?NASA used the Mars rover to broadcast a spoken message from the space agency's chief, Charles Bolden, today (Aug. 17).

The musician will.i.am, a member of hip-hop group The Black-Eyed Peas, was onsite at JPL Aug. 5 (PDT) to watch Curiosity land on Mars. The car-size, $2.5 billion rover is beginning a two-year mission to investigate whether Mars ever had the conditions necessary to support microbial life.

ScienceDaily (Aug. 28, 2012) ? Coming less than a year after the announcement of the first circumbinary planet, Kepler-16b, NASA's Kepler mission has discovered multiple transiting planets orbiting two suns for the first time. This system, known as a circumbinary planetary system, is 4,900 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus.

This discovery proves that more than one planet can form and persist in the stressful realm of a binary star and demonstrates the diversity of planetary systems in our galaxy.

Astronomers detected two planets in the Kepler-47 system, a pair of orbiting stars that eclipse each other every 7.5 days from our vantage point on Earth. One star is similar to the sun in size, but only 84 percent as bright. The second star is diminutive, measuring only one-third the size of the sun and less than 1 percent as bright.

"In contrast to a single planet orbiting a single star, the planet in a circumbinary system must transit a 'moving target.' As a consequence, time intervals between the transits and their durations can vary substantially, sometimes short, other times long," said Jerome Orosz, associate professor of astronomy at San Diego State University and lead author of the paper. "The intervals were the telltale sign these planets are in circumbinary orbits."

The inner planet, Kepler-47b, orbits the pair of stars in less than 50 days. While it cannot be directly viewed, it is thought to be a sweltering world, where the destruction of methane in its super-heated atmosphere might lead to a thick haze that could blanket the planet. At three times the radius of Earth, Kepler-47b is the smallest known transiting circumbinary planet.

The outer planet, Kepler-47c, orbits its host pair every 303 days, placing it in the so-called "habitable zone," the region in a planetary system where liquid water might exist on the surface of a planet. While not a world hospitable for life, Kepler-47c is thought to be a gaseous giant slightly larger than Neptune, where an atmosphere of thick bright water-vapor clouds might exist.

"Unlike our sun, many stars are part of multiple-star systems where two or more stars orbit one another. The question always has been -- do they have planets and planetary systems? This Kepler discovery proves that they do," said William Borucki, Kepler mission principal investigator at NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. "In our search for habitable planets, we have found more opportunities for life to exist."

To search for transiting planets, the research team used data from the Kepler space telescope, which measures dips in the brightness of more than 150,000 stars. Additional ground-based spectroscopic observations using telescopes at the McDonald Observatory at the University of Texas at Austin helped characterize the stellar properties. The findings are published in the journal Science.

"The presence of a full-fledged circumbinary planetary system orbiting Kepler-47 is an amazing discovery," said Greg Laughlin, professor of Astrophysics and Planetary Science at the University of California in Santa Cruz. "These planets are very difficult to form using the currently accepted paradigm, and I believe that theorists, myself included, will be going back to the drawing board to try to improve our understanding of how planets are assembled in dusty circumbinary disks."

Ames manages Kepler's ground system development, mission operations and science data analysis. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., managed the Kepler mission development.

Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. in Boulder, Colo., developed the Kepler flight system and supports mission operations with the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

The Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore archives, hosts and distributes Kepler science data. Kepler is NASA's tenth Discovery Mission and funded by NASA's Science Mission Directorate at the agency's headquarters in Washington.

During the past weeks, I experienced helping two different kinds of person. The first one is someone who thinks she knows all and she does not need any help. The second one is the exact opposite ? he is a struggling internet marketer and he is desperate in learning how to make his online business work. I want to share my experience for the internet marketing beginners to learn from, and for us who had some experiences in making money online to know more how to help others.

Wealthy Affiliate (WA) is the most helpful community in terms of offering help to its members. As a member for a while now, I?m also trying to help some of the new ones inside. However, even if I?m also a member for quite some time now, I also often ask help from other members who knows the things that I still don?t know. Recently, I tried to help some members and I got two interesting experiences to share today.

Helping A New WA Member Who Thinks She Knows All

There is this new member of Wealthy Affiliate who just finished her free 10-day and Success in 30 days course. After finishing those lessons, she made a blog post about her review of Wealthy Affiliate. It is great since she posted the things that she likes (pros) and the things she does not like (cons). I made a couple of Wealthy Affiliate University reviews myself so it is interesting to read others? reviews as well. In making a review, it is recommended to place both the pros and cons to balance the points. It is what this new member exactly did and so it is great. However, I read the cons and obviously, she does not know what she is talking about in many things. What I personally don?t like is the tone of her writing. She speaks like she knows it all (you know what I mean?).

I saw some WA members who replied in the post and they pointed out many mistakes that this member said. Some also felt sorry that they spent lots of their time helping her, only to find out in her post that she is complaining that WA is not teaching such and such because they do not like some members to go away. I then also made my reply and corrected some of her mistakes. Unfortunately, I think she does not like being corrected. I still offered suggestions to make her site better but again she did not accept my suggestions. She even said that her site is already ranking on page 1. Well, I?m really happy if her site is already ranking but I checked using Google incognito and sad to say, it cannot be found. I realized that I?m just wasting my time helping her so I made my last reply, still insisting on her site problems and pointing out her negative attitude a bit. Unfortunately, I think she cannot accept them so she deleted my reply.

Helping A Struggling Long Time WA Member

I also read a blog post of this long time WA member, where he is saying that he is really frustrated, since he spent a lot in his online business but he gained nothing. He said that he has a problem in trying to understand technical stuffs and what not, in setting up his websites and such. I replied in his blog post and told him some of the things that he has to do. However, I still see him always, and it seems that he is not going anywhere.

I had a chat with him and he shared some of his frustrations. I gave some suggestions on the things that he can do but it?s really hard to tell everything in just a chat. I then sent him a personal message, and made a deal with him. I guess the only way for me to help him is to work on his sites myself. I then told him that I?ll make the necessary things to make his site work well. We then agreed on a very friendly deal and I guess both of us are happy. I am currently working on his old site, which is now ranking in the first page of google. I?m also setting up his new site and hopefully, it will also rank soon. I really wish us the best!

Things Learned

I realized that it is really hard to help someone who does not like to be helped. Unfortunately, most of the people who do not want any help are just proud of themselves. Blinded by their pride, they can no longer see their mistake. On the other hand, when the person is really in need of help, it is very handy to help him or her.

Personally, I also like to make myself open to learning as much as possible. I admit that there are also times that my ego is working and I?m not accepting some learning. I have to say however that those days that I accepted learning from others improved many of my skills.

BANGKOK (AP) ? Oil prices rose Monday as Tropical Storm Isaac barreled across the Gulf of Mexico and toward the U.S. mainland, picking up strength and threatening oil and refining operations. An explosion at a refinery in Venezuela also pushed prices higher.

Benchmark crude for October delivery rose $1.04 to $97.19 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell 12 cents to finish at $96.15 per barrel on the Nymex on Friday.

Brent crude rose 18 cents to $113.77 on the ICE Futures exchange in London.

Oil analyst Stephen Schork said in an email commentary that he expects "much higher volatility this week" due to Tropical Storm Isaac, which weather forecasters said would pick up strength before striking as a Category 2 hurricane somewhere between New Orleans and the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday.

Schork worries that the storm will be a repeat of Hurricanes Katrina in 2005 and Gustav in 208, damaging Gulf refineries and pipelines and disrupting oil tanker traffic.

Another factor pushing up prices was an explosion and fire that shut down operations at the Amuay refinery in western Venezuela, said Victor Shum, energy analyst at consultancy Purvin & Gertz in Singapore.

Amuay is among the world's largest refineries and is part of the Paraguana Refinery Complex, which also includes the adjacent Cardon refinery. Together, the refineries process about 900,000 barrels of crude per day and 200,000 barrels of gasoline.

Gasoline futures rose 9 cents to $3.004 per gallon. Heating oil rose nearly 6 cents to $3.177 per gallon. Natural gas rose 3 cents to $2.733 per 1,000 cubic feet.

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - The former chief financial officer of the Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia was sentenced on Friday to two to seven years in prison for stealing more than $900,000 from the church.

After she serves her prison term, Anita Guzzardi, 43, of Camden County, New Jersey, will remain on probation for seven years, Common Pleas Court Judge Ellen Ceisler said at the sentencing.

Guzzardi had pleaded guilty to theft by deception, forgery and unlawful use of a computer.

Her case made headlines earlier this year as the archdiocese faced a $6 million budget shortfall and an additional $11 million in legal costs associated with a child sex abuse scandal. Monsignor William Lynn was convicted of covering up for predatory priests.

Prosecutors have said that Guzzardi spent most of the money on personal credit card bills and at casinos in the United States, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Her lawyer, Louis Busico, said on Friday she has so far paid back some $260,000, but the court ordered her to turn over another $646,627.

These are not happy days for Apple in China. The iconic American brand, outpaced by Samsung in its appeal among Chinese consumers since last year, is now also losing out to other smartphone competitors.

According to IDC, Apple?s share of the Chinese smartphone market by shipments fell by nearly half to 10 per cent in the second quarter from three months earlier. The company came fourth in a ranking topped by Samsung and Lenovo, the Chinese company that is also the world?s second-largest PC vendor.

IHS isuppli, another research firm, even sees Apple as an ?also-ran? in China, trailing, with a market share of just 7.5 per cent, behind Coolpad, Huawei, Nokia and ZTE, as well as Samsung and Lenovo.

Coolpad, a former maker of feature phones that sells mainly in its Chinese home market, is now focused on smartphones as well. Huawei and ZTE, China?s two largest vendors of telecom equipment, are aggressively pushing into the smartphone market as growth in their traditional market for telecom network gear is slowing.

Lenovo leapt from seventh rank to number two with 11 per cent market share in just three months, according to IDC. ?Both Lenovo and Coolpad have been rising pretty fast,? says Kevin Wang, director of China electronics research at IHS.

The difference in the two rankings is caused by different ways of counting shipments, particularly the extent to which subsidized shipments to carriers are counted.

But no matter whether it is fourth or seventh, Apple is clearly no longer Chinese consumers? first choice ? a problem that had already been flagged when the company disappointed investors with its results for the June quarter last month.

That is particularly hard for the US company is that the Chinese smartphone market is more important than ever. The IDC figures show that smartphone shipments overtook those of feature phones for the first time in the June quarter, accounting for 51 per cent of total handset shipments of 87m units in the world?s most populous country and largest mobile market by subscribers.

IHS says Full-year shipments are set to rise 141 per cent.

One reason Apple is falling behind is Chinese telecoms operators? reluctance to subsidise the iPhone enough to make it competitive. While this affects all makers, Apple is especially exposed because its smartphone is the most expensive.

Another headache has been Apple?s reluctance to customize the device for TD-SCDMA, the Chinese homegrown 3G standard used by China Mobile, and thus making itself unattractive to subscribers of the world?s largest mobile operator.

That problem could go away when the iPhone 5 is launched later this year. The device is expected to come with a Qualcomm chip that is TD-compatible.

But there are other disadvantages. With a screen expected to measure 4 inches, the iPhone 5 is no longer cutting edge. ?That would still be smaller than many of its Chinese competitors, which have 4.3-inch or 4.7-inch screens,? says Wang.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) ? John Lennon's killer was denied release from prison in his seventh appearance before a parole board, New York corrections officials said Thursday.

Mark David Chapman, 57, was denied parole by a three-member board after a hearing Wednesday, the state Department of Corrections said. The transcript of his latest hearing wasn't immediately released.

Chapman can try again for parole in two years.

Chapman shot Lennon in December 1980 outside the Manhattan apartment building where the former Beatle lived. He was sentenced in 1981 to 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. The musician, singer and songwriter was 40.

"Despite your positive efforts while incarcerated, your release at this time would greatly undermine respect for the law and tend to trivialize the tragic loss of life which you caused as a result of this heinous, unprovoked, violent, cold and calculated crime," board member Sally Thompson wrote. Board members Joseph Crangle and Marc Coppola agreed.

The panel praised Chapman's conduct and accomplishments but said "parole shall not be granted for good conduct and program completions alone." The board noted there was significant opposition to his release.

Chapman was transferred in May from the Attica Correctional Facility in western New York to the nearby Wende Correctional Facility. Both are maximum security. The prison system doesn't disclose why inmates are transferred.

At his previous hearing in 2010, Chapman recalled that he had considered shooting Johnny Carson or Elizabeth Taylor instead, and said again that he chose Lennon because the ex-Beatle was more accessible, that his century-old Upper West Side apartment building by Central Park "wasn't quite as cloistered." Chapman fired five shots outside the Dakota apartment house on Dec. 8, 1980, hitting Lennon four times in front of his wife, Yoko Ono, and others.

The former security guard from Hawaii said that his motivation was instant notoriety but that he later realized he made a horrible decision for selfish reasons.

"I felt that by killing John Lennon I would become somebody and instead of that I became a murderer and murderers are not somebodies," Chapman told the board two years ago.

Ono, 79, had said two years ago that she was trying to be "practical" in asking that her husband's killer remain behind bars. She said Chapman might be a danger to her, other family members and perhaps even himself.

In a 1992 interview at Attica, Chapman told Barbara Walters that it was dark when he shot Lennon in the back with a .38-caliber revolver after he exited a limousine, headed up the walkway to his apartment building and looked at Chapman. "I heard this voice ? not an audible voice, an inaudible voice ? saying over and over, 'Do it, do it, do it,'" Chapman said. He explained, "I thought that by killing him I would acquire his fame."

He has been in protective custody with a good disciplinary record, according to corrections officials.

Fennville's Mitchell Leonard caught a 10-yard pass from Seth Schut for the Blackhawks' lone touchdown.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) ? Jurors began deliberating Wednesday in a multibillion dollar patent infringement case pitting Apple against Samsung over the design of iPhones and iPads ? but few experts were expecting a quick verdict.

After a three-week federal trial in San Jose, a jury of seven men and two women picked from a pool of Silicon Valley residents will try to decide if Samsung Electronics Co. ripped off Apple Inc. designs or whether Apple wronged Samsung.

With so much money and market clout at stake, a decision likely won't come anytime soon, according to jury experts, attorneys and courtroom observers.

"This case has huge implications," said University of Notre Dame Law Professor Mark P. McKenna. "It could result in injunctions against both companies" involving the sales of products.

It took the judge more than two hours to read the 109 pages of instructions to the jury. As a verdict is reached, jurors must fill out a 20-page form that includes dozens of check-off boxes.

"The verdict form is crazy," said Karen Lisko, who runs a jury consulting company that specializes in patent trials. "It's incredibly complicated."

Jurors have several different smartphones and computer tablets in the jury room to help them determine which device is alleged to have violated what patent.

Apple argues that Samsung should pay the Cupertino-based company $2.5 billion for ripping off its iPhone and iPad technology when it marketed competing devices.

Attorneys for Samsung asked the jury to award it $399 million after claiming Apple used Samsung technology without proper compensation.

Lisko said it could take the jury an entire day just to devise a routine and system to sift through the facts and began actual deliberations.

"The first day is usually very messy," she said.

It took jurors more than a week to reach a verdict in another major patent case, Google v. Oracle. That San Francisco panel decided in May that Google did infringe Oracle's patents related to the Java computer language, but the panel awarded no damages after it couldn't come to a unanimous agreement on several other points.

During closing arguments Tuesday, Apple attorney Harold McElhinny said Samsung was having a "crisis of design" after the launch of the iPhone, and executives with the South Korean company were determined to illegally cash in on the success of the revolutionary device.

Samsung's lawyer countered that the technology giant was simply and legally giving consumers what they want: Smart phones with big screens. They say they didn't violate any of Apple's patents and further claimed that Apple's claimed innovations were actually created by other companies.

The case went to the jury after last-minute talks between chief executives failed to resolve the dispute.

According to research, pregnant women who are mindful about their health as well as their baby's health during pregnancy tend to produce healthier and fitter babies. Women who are less mindful about what they eat and what they do, tend to expose their babies to higher risk of suffering from birth defects and other undesirable consequences. So what are the things that you should be mindful about during pregnancy?

Alcohol Consumption
Consumption of large amount of alcohol imposes harm to you and your baby. Though the "safe amount" of alcohol consumption is still unknown, studies show that alcohol can cause physical and mental birth defects. Binge drinking can also cause damage to the baby's nervous system and it can trigger the development of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS).

Caffeine
Over consumption of caffeine is not good for the body. Intake of over 150 milligrams of caffeine increases a pregnant woman's risk for miscarriage. Make sure to cut down your consumption of alcohol to give your baby the best possible health. Take note that caffeine does not just refer to coffee. Caffeine also includes green tea, cola, softdrinks and black tea. You can have chocolates but only in moderate amount.

Medications
There are certain medications which you should avoid. Make sure to ask your doctor about the OTC and prescription drugs which are safe and unsafe to use. Some medications impose negative impacts to the health of babies. The use of recreational drugs can actually trigger premature birth, learning and behavioural problems, poor growth and birth defects. If you have used any of drugs during your pregnancy, make sure to consult your doctor about it.

Cigarette Smoking
In whatever circumstances, cigarette smoking is never beneficial to the body. By smoking, you also allow your unborn baby to smoke. You in fact encourage him or her to obtain carbon monoxide and nicotine which are very harmful to the body. In effect, your baby is at a greater risk for low birth weight, premature birth, stillbirth, asthma and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Sugar and Artificial Sweeteners
Make sure to avoid artificial sweeteners. According to research, excessive consumption of artificial sweeteners can trigger the development of serious health conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, bladder cancer and birth defects.

Exercise
Some low-impact exercises are beneficial for a pregnant woman's body. However, high impact exercises such as bouncing, scuba diving, leaping, jarring, sit-ups, heavy lifting and weight training should be avoided. These exercises can exert too much pressure on the structures found within the uterus which can cause bleeding or premature labour. Instead of engaging in these exercises, perhaps you can do some yoga, swimming, walking and water aerobics.

Bug Spray and Household Chemicals
Avoidance from these chemicals is strongly recommended as they impose drastic impacts to the health of the babies. Frequent exposure to these chemicals can cause birth defects, premature delivery and miscarriage.

Lead
Make sure to avoid materials which contain lead. According to research, exposure to lead can cause premature delivery, developmental and learning delays, low birth weight and miscarriage.
